چکیده

The information about HBsAg carriage rate in children is scanty worldwide. There are few reports which suggest that chronic vimemia may be high in the developing countries. The majority ofHBV carriers acquire infection before the age of 6 years and 25-30% of them will eventually die of chronic liverdisease orlivercancer. Data on the status of HBV carriage rate in Pakistani children is scarce though its status in adults and pregnant females is well documented. Various methods are available for testing Hepatitis 13 surface antigen (HBsAg) in blood, the commonly usedbeing Serodia and Elisa methods. This study was done to determine the prevalence of HB sAg in healthy children and to compare the sensitivity of Serodia technique with Elisa technique.

Hepatitis B virus associated membranous glomerulonephritis

The incidence of persistent hepatitis B surface (H13s) antigenaemia was studied in 114 nephrotic children with glomerulonephritis. Twenty five (24 boys) of 28 cases of membranous glomerulonephritis were HBs antigen (HBsAg) carriers. Only 9 of the remaining 86 patients with nephropathies other than membranous glomerulonephritis were HBsAg positive. H:BsAg immune complexes were seen in the sera b...

The association between maternal hepatitis B e antigen status, as a proxy for perinatal transmission, and the risk of hepatitis B e antigenaemia in Gambian children

BACKGROUND Early age at infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) increases the risk of chronic HBV infection. In addition early age at infection may further increase the risk of persistent viral replication beyond its effect on chronicity. The effects of perinatal and early postnatal transmission on the risk of prolonged hepatitis B e antigenaemia in children with chronic HBV infection are not we...
